The popular season fashion in 2017

It’s amazing what a little good weather can do for the soul—and the wardrobe. I came to this realization while sitting in the backyard of my family’s home in Texas last weekend. The weather hovered somewhere around 90 degrees, a breeze was blowing, my bare feet were connecting with the solid earth below, and I was wearing only a floral 3.1 Phillip Lim dress. It was the same accordion-pleat frock that had been languishing for months in my closet, its vibrant design slightly mocking me as I layered up in dull knits, scarves, coats, and tights day after day through the winter. But with spring upon us, suddenly I was considering the endless possibilities of what to wear to greet its warm embrace.
As it turned out, I wasn’t the only one around here whose thoughts of spring weather made them think of their spring wardrobe. Upon my return to the office this week, my colleagues were already devising seasonal wish lists. There was talk of florals (but of course), flirty mules, and the freeing nature of exposed skin, creating looks that are sure to bring the heat.
“I couldn’t be more psyched to shed some layers. Goodbye, tights and ’hose—hello, heels and toes! Currently twinkling in my checkout cart? Embellished everything—mules, slides, and peep-toe sandals.”
—Rachel Waldman.
Slipper with rhinestone transfer makes every lady look like spring ,light and lively.
Some consider the first hint of spring to be the budding of blossoms, or the onset of seasonal allergies. But fashion types know all too well that it really arrives when we can finally break our toes out of the chrysalis of wintertime hosiery and embrace the freedom of a summer sandal. Showing off a freshly lacquered pedicure and a splash of skin, in other words, is a sure way to feel like the warmer months are afoot.
This season, the most stylish footwear takes this concept a step further: It’s transparent. While invisible footwear may seem a throwback to Old Hollywood pinup styles or a reference to modern-day striptease artists, the new PVC wedge is actually a versatile no-brainer of an accessory. The slip-on’s sleek, see-through quality is what compelled this writer to indulge in a pair of Maryam Nassir Zadeh’s Olympia wedges a few weeks back—when spring was merely flirting with New Yorkers. The aerodynamic and well-ventilated style makes feet appear to float, but, as Zadeh points out, the dainty shoe has plenty of heft.
“It is so feminine and delicate in design, and yet when wearing it, it doesn’t feel precious. It’s substantial and comfortable and your feet can breathe in the summer,” she says. The in-demand footwear designer sees the shoes as a jewelry-like punctuation to any ensemble, and suggests styling them with pared-down separates and summer dresses for an added “layer of something unexpected and summery.”
